Responsibility doing the things we are supposed to do and accepting the positive or negative outcomes of our actions.
(I’m responsible for…)

2 What are your main responsibilities?

Introductions

It isn’t just what you know, and it isn’t just who you know. It’s actually who you know, who knows you, and what you do for a living.

All things being equal, people will do business with a friend; all things being unequal, people will still do business with a friend.

  1.  How important is networking in your job?
  2. How many different ways can you think of to find a job?
  3. Do you ever go on training courses? What kind of courses have you attended? Do you think they are useful?

Yes, hello. My name is Jan Werner. I work for Metronet Fibre. Our main business is fiber optics. We install urban fibreoptic networks for telecommunication systems all over the world. I'm the director of communications in the HR department. I'm Norwegian but I live and work in the Czech Republic. Our head office is in Prague. That's where I'm based. At the moment, though, I'm spending a lot of time visiting our other offices in Europe. I organize and run different management training courses for our senior management.

Well, I'm Silvia Fortune. I'm Catalan and I'm from Barcelona. I work for a big retail chain with franchises all over the world. We manufacture and sell clothes and fashion accessories but, of course, my role is related to personnel. I work out of our headquarters in Barcelona and I am director of staff training responsible for recruitment and training in the European area. I have to say I love my job and I welcome the opportunity to learn something more about performance and motivation. I think that's it. If you want to know anything more, you can ask me.

My turn? Hi everybody. My name is |ean-Christophe Marchal but most people just call JC. I'm here because I have a new job in the HR department of Aqualux. I'm mainly involved with staff training. As I say, it's a new job for me but I have five years of experience working in the HR field. You probably think from my accent that I'm French. Actually, I'm Belgian but I'm based in Paris where we have our main office. Aqualux is a utility company and our main activity is the supply and treatment of water and waste.
